Committees and Coordinators

Chair/Co-Chair, Annual Fundraiser

A person or persons who runs our annual fundraising event that is fun and educational for the kids. In years past the Chair has coordinated a Boosterthon, which incorporates fitness, leadership, and builds character, teaches kids that fitness is fun. The school has also done other activities such as a Book-a-thon. The Chair will help promote the event among students and parents, and help coordinate volunteers for this event. This position reports to the VP for Fundraising.

Fundraising Committee

We are also in search of fundraising committee members as well for help with sponsorships, Coupon Book Fundraiser, and other fundraising activities.

Sponsorship Liaison

This person is responsible for identifying and managing various financial sponsorship opportunities for Stone Mill ES PTA.

Co-Chair, Book Fair

A person who coordinates with Scholastic, sets up, breaks down, and runs Scholastic Book fair in the Fall and Spring, and helps with compiling finances for the fair. The position reports to the VP for Fundraising. The new Chair will have a chance to shadow the current Chair for a year to learn the ropes.

Co-Chair, Box Top/Store Rewards Coordinator

This person (or persons) will be the contact person for all box top and other collectible labels, as well as store reward cards. They will promote collection of labels by having various contests (a couple of times a year). Will also have to process labels after contests.

Co-Chair, Creation Celebration

This is held in conjunction with the Talent Show and a person is needed to help organize and collect and display the art work and sculptures and masterpieces created by our SMES students.

Co-Chair, Talent Show

This person would assist in organizing this event to include managing numerous talent acts, but also organizing music, volunteers, food, and brochure for this amazing night!

Co-Chair, Bingo Night

A person or persons will be in-charge of coordinating Bingo Night usually held in the fall. PTA Board members will advise on how to organize the night with coordination of prizes, bingo cards, markers, pizza dinner and snacks, etc. The position reports to the VP for Social Events.

Newspaper Club (Editors/Volunteers)

A person or persons who will help organize Newspaper club for 4th and 5th graders, and to learn the newspaper process. Guidance is available from current Newspaper Club Advisor. In particular, looking for people to edit articles, help with newspaper layouts (experience with Microsoft publisher), and assisting/helping with running newspaper club.

Foreign Language Classes Coordinator

A person who will help find a good company that offers foreign language courses before or after school. This person will also coordinate with the company and the school to determine day and time of classes, room assignment, etc. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that all classes are run smoothly.

NAACP Parent Representative

This person would serve as the school’s NAACP Council Representative to be a liaison between the NAACP and the school.

Wootton Cluster Representative

Responsibilities include attending three Wootton cluster meetings during the year, and disseminating information about these meetings to the Stone Mill community.

MCCPTA Representative

Responsibilities include attending the monthly MCCPTA meetings held on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Each PTA in the Montgomery County Council of PT As (MCCPTA) is represented by 2 delegates and their President at monthly meetings. Issues and resolutions are presented at these meetings to be brought back to the school PTA for discussion. Local PTA issues and questions can also be brought to the MCCPTA for support and assistance. Responsibilities also include signing up for the MCCPTA Liaison listserv and communicating any relevant updates to the TA board for further review. Understanding of the SMES PTA function is crucial for this role as this person represents SMES PTA Please see the MCCPTA website at http://www.mccpta.com/.

There is always much to be done with all events at school. The following are some of the activities/events that Stone Mill holds and we always need help with these.

Carnival

This person or persons will help to organize our Spring Carnival which is usually help in May of every year. Responsibilities include coordinating with vendors to supply games, DJ, food and snack vendors, etc. This person would also help guide parents to organize activities such as Teacher’s Treasures, Lollipop Tree, Arts and Crafts, Prize Redemption, etc. Also responsible for creating layout of Carnival including placement of games, food and inflatables and supervise setup and tear down. This person would also be in charge of organizing ticket pre-sales and work with the Chair of Carnival Parent and Teen Volunteer Coordination. Board members and current 2015 Carnival Chair will provide guidance to incoming chair. The ideal person would be highly organized and able to work well with many people at a time. Time commitment starts slowly in January (perhaps once a week) and climbs to a larger commitment just prior to the event.

PTA Newsletter/Communications

This person (or persons) will will work closely with the PTA President and Board members and help to put together the school’s newsletter (which will be sent weekly/bi-weekly). Responsibilities include gathering information from board members and committee chairs to include in the newsletter in a timely manner and editing this document. You don’t need to have a background in journalism to be this person—just someone who is well organized and who has a strong commitment to help spread the word to our PTA community! Being savvy with Word and Google Docs would be useful as would good editing skills.

Spirit Wear

Person or persons who assists Chair of Spirit Wear (clothes with schools name/logo) in promoting selling of spirit wear various times of the year at different Stone Mill ES PTA events.

Staff Appreciation

A person or persons who coordinates special events throughout the year to honor teachers and staff, such as the annual holiday cookie exchange and Staff Appreciation Week. (Few times a year commitment). Current Chair and PTA board members will provide advice on how to run these events.

Movie Night

A person or persons will be in-charge of coordinating a movie night in the Fall. Board members will help identify the movies and provide advice on organizing drop off and pick up, ticket sales, arranging for snacks/popcorn, etc. The position reports to the VP for Social Events.

Bingo Night

A person or persons will be in-charge of coordinating Bingo Night usually held in the fall. PTA Board members will advise on how to organize the night with coordination of prizes, bingo cards, markers, pizza dinner and snacks, etc. The position reports to the VP for Social Events.

Back to School Picnic

A person or persons will be in-charge of organizing the Back to School Picnic held early in the school year. Duties will include arranging for a DJ, pizza and other vendors, Spirit Wear, etc. The position reports to the VP for Social Events. The new Chair will have a chance to shadow the current Chair for a year to learn the ropes.

Staff Hospitality

A person or persons who provides hospitality to staff during the year including arranging for lunch for monthly staff meetings (monthly commitment). PTA board members will provide advice on how to coordinate for this activity.

Membership

A person who works with the Board to develop PTA membership plan for the year. This person will be in-charge of promoting membership via flyers, emails, and other announcements, collecting membership forms and payments, encouraging and educating parents on PTA membership, helping to recruit new members at PTA meetings, etc.
